I was the league President that year and we had 2,300 fans at Los Amigos for the final game. Many of them brought their chairs and sat on the tennis courts. In this picture is Raymond Cooper who hit five homeruns, three of which were game-winners and two of which were grand slams. Awesome! Ray's son, James Cooper (a Los Amigos kid) signed with the New York Yankees organization in 2005. There's also a good 3rd baseman in the front row who homered in the World Series and was a human vacuum cleaner for baseballs, none other than my buddy, Chris Lopez." - Jim Pevehouse |

Note young Tim Leary (front row) who grew up to become a 6'3", 205 pound power pitcher in the Major Leagues winning (78) games and recording (888) career strikeouts. Tim graduated from Santa Monica High School in 1976 after posting a 10-2 record that year and earning All-CIF first-team honors. Following a successful collegiate career at UCLA, Leary was selected by the New York Mets with the second pick of the first round in the 1979 baseball draft. He pitched professionally for 15 years, spending 10 of those years in the majors with the New York Mets, Milwaukee Brewers, Los Angeles Dodgers, Cincinnati Reds, New York Yankees, Seattle Mariners, and Texas Rangers. Leary's best performances came in 1988 when he helped lead the Dodgers to the World Series Championship. He was named National League Comeback Player of the Year, finishing the season with a 17-11 record and a 2.90 ERA. |
